Dr. Gwendolyn P. Cobbs

Gwendolyn Patterson Cobbs, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.  

Dr. Cobbs is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and has been practicing in Northern Virginia since 1999. She has practiced at Reston Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital and is currently working at Virginia Hospital Center-Arlington. She is a graduate of The Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.,  Goucher College in Towson, MD where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Georgetown University Medical School /Georgetown University’s Medical Center where she completed her medical degree and training in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Cobbs is well trained in Laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, Hysteroscopic surgery, Infertility, Endometriosis, Fibroids, HPV, Contraception, and Obstetrics.  She enjoys educating women about their bodies during all stages of life from the teen years to menopause.

Weight-Loss Management is also a big part of Dr. Cobbs’ practice.  She is a certified weight-loss coach with Ideal Protein of America, Inc. and sees patients who are struggling with their weight–especially patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Menopause.

Dr. Cobbs has received awards for her leadership abilities and medical practices: She has been named one of America’s Top OB/GYN’s every year since 2008.  She was also awarded the Sarah E. Stewart leadership award by Georgetown University Medical School.

Dr. Cobbs has been involved in research projects involving male contraception, uterine cancer, and adolescent pregnancy.  She also is a clinical instructor with Georgetown University Medical School,  James Madison University’s Physician Assistant program and with the Physician Assistant’s Program at Shenandoah University.

Dr. Cobbs was also the founder and president of the Genesis Food Pantry, Inc. from 1997-20011.  This organization helped to feed families in the Washington, DC metro area.  She has also has performed missions work in South Africa and in Haiti and has worked with the organization “Birthmothers” for crisis pregnancy.  In her free time, Dr. Cobbs enjoys outdoor activities with her three sons and attends Grace Covenant Church in Chantilly, VA.
